It looked all good and ran fine during the test drive, and the price was fair until I went deeper and turns out the front axle ring gear has some teeth completely chewed off, found it when I noticed the 4WD wasn't engaging quite right and decided to pull things apart, this is definitely not something that accidentally slips your mind when selling a tractor...

Anyway, lesson learned but now I'm trying to track down a replacement ring gear or full assembly if needed and stuck on some thoughts, my local dealer is checking, but lead times are long and I'm hoping to find one faster or even used if it's in decent shape

Spotting that ring gear damage was crucial, it's a killer for the 4-wheel drive. To get things moving, maybe check out some salvage yards or places that specialize in parts. If you can't find the parts anywhere, grabbing an entire hub assembly might be the way to go

Tough break. Seems to me the front axle ring gear took a serious hit, which would definitely explain the 4WD issues. Have you come across any potential sources yet, or is it mostly dealer backorder so far?
